NEW IN THIS WEEK'S PHOENIX. Google, the company everyone loves, knows more about you than you might realize. Also, how the Internet drove coverage of Metro International's bad behavior.

I'm on an assignment that keeps me away from my computer most of the time, so blogging is likely to be light for at least the next day or so.

Dan,

Thanks for the reminder about Google and Cookies. I've known about such issues for years (being an early subscriber to the Risks Digest), but I've been lazy about cleaning cookies. As Google expands its services and records anything it wants to, it's time to get worried. And reading through my cookies, I see just how much cross-site cookie-tracking is possible. Yech.

You've inspired me to arrange for *regular* quarantining of any cookies that don't benefit me directly. Yes, I'll accept cookies, and I'll return them during the session, but persistent cookies will be returned in later sessions only if I notice a benefit.
