HOMOPHOBIA ON (AND OFF) THE RACKS. Brian Camenker and his merry band of hatemongers at the Article 8 Alliance are at it again. For weeks, they've been pushing for a ban on the gay-and-lesbian newspaper Bay Windows at local supermarkets. The Herald's Greg Gatlin has the latest today, reporting that the paper has, indeed, been dropped at Stop & Shop and Shaw's.

But it looks like Camenker's victory might be temporary - a spokesman for Stop & Shop says Bay Windows is likely to be back if the two sides can work out a deal to carry the paper without the personal ads. The spokesman adds that the Boston Phoenix is not carried for the same reason. (I didn't know that! Oh, well.)

The Article 8 folks, bless their twisted little hearts, have also included a link to this Washington Blade article about what you can do to get Bay Windows back on the racks. Thanks, Brian.

And here's a gutless anonymous homophobe with a blog who's getting involved in the action.

Good grief. I need a shower.

As a suburban reporter last year, I saw Camenker give a talk that was really, really creepy, to say the least. He's completely, utterly unreasonable, and very paranoid. I think every reporter has had times when he/she has had to work very hard to remain objective and unbiased for an article, and this was one of them.
Shudder.

All it takes is a few minutes on the Article 8 Web site (or the equally nasty MassNews site) to realize that the organization only exists to promote homophobia. Here's a perfect example:

Is the "Mass" organization some division of the group that buys all the commercial time on WBZ- radio overnight? They have spent big bucks for almost a year on their laughable spots.

Mass News was the principal sponser of the anti-gay marriage amendment (back before the SJC ruling). The organization is owned and operated by the Pawlick family, although Ed Pawlick recently "resigned as publisher" to devote his time to fighting the New York Times (he blames Arthur Sulzberger for the SJC gay marriage decision).

The Pawlicks are obsessed with Margaret Marshall and are heavy backers of the Article 8 Aliance.

The level of paranoia and hatred is truly remarkable, especially in the NYT attack:

Regardless of what whack jobs Art 8 is, is it not unreasonable for a store not to carry a publication that prints sexually explicit personal ads. Really, why is that bad?

The article8 people aren't crusading to eliminate publications which carry personal ads -- they're crusading to eliminate gay publications and using the ads as an excuse.

The wackjob at Massresistance.blogspot.com is Amy Contrada. She wants to spew hate and venom but not take responsiblity for the damage her actions cause. She is truly an evil woman not unlike the Nazis. Why is she so obsessed with gay people?

By the way, what's with all the anonymous posts?

The article8 folks have a nasty habit of mail bombing people who disagree with them.

In today's rant on Massresistance.blogspot.com Ms. Contrada gives out Dan's home e-mail...

Amy Contrada of Massresistance is a coward. She's the worse the internet has to offer. She types insane diatribes and hate speech and takes no responsiblity. Then she screams about freedom of speech while still keeping herself anomymous. All those Article 8 people are pretty scarey. I went down to Fanueil Hall last year when they brought in Family Values person Alan Keyes (yes, the family values man who cut off his daughter when he found out he was gay.) The lot of the people attending looked like the villians from Deliverance, i.e., his father is his brother is his grandfather, etc...
They also show total disregard for the laws of the Commonwealth by recording conversations without the person's ok and then cry "victim" when prosecuted by the elitist lawyers. (They're not elitist, just plain old common sense intelligent people who are law abiding citizens unlike Article 8.)
Article 8 also brought in a man dressed like Margaret Marshall to "burn" the constitution on November17th to protest the SJC's decision. They still don't get that same sex couples can marry in this state. I recommend they go back to south where bigotry is not only tolerated but codified in law.

Ed and Sally Pawlick did have the ads on WBZ, EZE and other stations.
I disagree with the statement that MassNews is "equally nasty". For the last few months, they have been doing stories just on pending legislation RE: stem cells, welfare, etc. Very little to do with gay marriage.
